Leadership - 4 Basic Leadership Tips

Here's how you can become a better leader in your organization:

1. Listen to your people. Being a leader doesn't always mean knowing everything and always being right. You'll become a more effective leader if you let your subordinates speak out their mind from time to time. Encourage them to talk about their struggles in performing their job and ask them for feedback. Through this, you'll be able to easily create a plan of action on how you can improve things to help your subordinates perform better.

2. Admit it. If you're wrong or if you don't have the answers to particular questions, admit it. Telling someone the truth doesn't necessarily mean losing their trust. In fact, being honest can help you gain the respect of those people that you lead.

3. Motivate them. As a leader, it is your job to motivate your subordinates to deliver better results.

You can do this by keeping them posted on the fruits of their labor and by giving them a pat on the back each time they contribute to the success of the organization. It would also help if you can reward them for their hard work from time to time.

4. Build relationship with your people. If you want these people to be more open to you, I recommend that you treat them as friends (with boundaries) instead of just co-workers. Mingle with them from time to time. Through this, you'll be able to know them better and you'll easily figure out how you can bring out the best in them.
